What's the difference between lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries

Posted on 2022-07-26

First, different nature

1, lead-acid battery: an electrode is mainly made of lead and its oxide, the electrolyte is sulfuric acid solution of the battery.

2, lithium battery: a kind of battery made of lithium metal or lithium alloy as anode material, using non-aqueous electrolyte solution.

Two, different characteristics

1, lead acid battery characteristics:

(1) Safety seal

During normal operation, the electrolyte will not leak from the battery terminal or housing. No free acid Special suction dividers keep the acid inside and there is no free acid inside the cell, so the cell can be placed anywhere.

(2) Deflating system

When the internal pressure of the battery exceeds the normal level, the lead-acid battery will release excess gas and automatically reseal to ensure that there is no excess gas in the battery.

(3) Simple maintenance

Since the gas composite system converts the gas produced into water, there is no need to add water to the VRLA battery.

(4) Long service life

Vrla batteries with corrosion-resistant lead-calcium alloy fencing can float for 10-15 years.

2, lithium battery characteristics:

(1) Relatively high energy. It has a high storage energy density, which has reached 460-600Wh/kg, which is about 6-7 times of lead-acid battery.

(2) long service life, service life can reach more than 6 years, lithium ferrous phosphate as a positive battery 1C (100%DOD) charge and discharge, there are 10000 available records;

(3) High rated voltage (single working voltage is 3.7V or 3.2V), equivalent to the series voltage of three nickel-cadmium or ni-MH rechargeable batteries, easy to form battery power supply. Lithium battery can adjust the voltage to 3.0V through the new technology of lithium battery voltage regulator, to adapt to the use of small appliances.

(4) With high power bearing capacity, iron phosphate lithium ion battery for electric vehicles can reach 15-30 degrees Celsius charge and discharge capacity, convenient for high-strength start and acceleration.

(5) The self-discharge rate is very low, which is one of the most outstanding advantages of batteries. It can be less than 1%/ month, less than 1/20 of a nimH battery.
